Atlantic City police said 27-year-old Jose Hernandez from The Bronx, NY, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 1. Investigators said Hernandez walked up to the woman and tried to sell her a cigarette.

Someone told an officer on North Arkansas Avenue at 10:12 p.m. that he saw a woman have her purse stolen. The officer saw Hernandez running away from the area and reported him to other officers.

As Hernandez ran away, a second bystander and the victim pointed him out to another officer. That officer caught Hernandez and arrested him.

Hernandez was found with the victim's purse and also had an active warrant for his arrest. He was charged with theft.

Hernandez was held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
